Coats for Cold

My black wool coat has served me well over the last 5 years, but it is starting to get a bit thin at the bum, and I am getting very tired of sewing the buttons back on.

So, despite the fact that I want a black coat, my heart is very nearly set on this one. However, I am not sure about the fact that it is cotton. (The woman in the shop said it was wool.) Wouldn't cotton just get wet and cold and clammy?

Other runners are:
Wool, nice style, quite simple but a bit different with the trim.
Also wool, funky design, quite cheap. Not sure about the fit though. (I have just seen it online, not tried it on.)
