X-Men Origins: Wolverine

The sorts of things I was hearing about this movie was that it was OK, but not as good as X-Men. Those people are lying liars who lie.
The film has layers. I figure this because I went to see it with my friend B, who had no idea what I was on about when I started raving because she missed most of it. If you only see the Big Dumb Fun action film bits, it's all right. But there is emotional stuff, some of which is subtle. I can't believe I'm saying that about a Hollywood blockbuster, but it's true!
There is piles of messy, complicated emotional stuff. The villain is vicious and nasty and brutal. He is a manipulator, rather than a moustache-twirler. A lot of the violence is OTT, but I'm prepared to forgive quite a lot at this point. There is a lot of establishing characters from later in the time line, but it is done pretty well. On the whole, the set up is quite lengthy, but the payoff is worth it.
Everything else is going under the cut for spoilers, because I am going to spoil the hell out of it.
Spoiler 1: Wolverine and Sabretooth are half brothers. I must re-watch the first X-Men film very soon to get all the "future" implications of this. The relationship between them is played out brilliantly as it all slowly goes bitterly wrong. And the fight at the end is gloriously fucked up. I hope we get some more of that along the way.
Spoiler 2: Wade! Poor pretty, smart-arse Wade! It was clearly going to be horrific, but I didn't realise it would be you. That was actually quite chilling.
Spoiler 3: Kayla. Oh Kayla. You were barely in the film, and yet you were made of awesome. I spotted the blue eyes thing straight away, but I did not see the betrayal coming. That was a nasty, nasty moral dilemma, brilliantly done. Probably the only time she actually played him was when she was doing her best to prepare him for what was coming. Once I worked out what was going on it was kind of heartbreaking.
Spoiler 4: Logan goes from an affair he can't remember with a girl who manipulates people through touch, to an odd friendship, brimful of sexual tension, with a girl who can't touch anyone at all. I may be just a teeny bit in love with the writers.
Have you seen it? What did you think?
