For those new to the programme this year, each January I do a bit of a year in review/ goals for this year sort of post.

So, talking about this year, I said:

1 - I will attend at least one part-time course of some sort through Bristol Uni, or anyone else doing something interesting. Nope
2 - Italian course (For the third time - maybe that's the charm) It was, in fact, not the charm
3 - Climbing (I really need to be getting some exercise)YES!
4 - Join a choir (Although I have a nasty feeling the one someone referred me to practices on the same night as climbing, which would be very annoying.)Another no

On the face of it, it doesn't look good. But I think this part of last year's post was the important bit:

"So it's nearly February and I am finally getting around to doing the old "Year in Review" thing. This is pretty representative of my life at the moment. You know the sort of thing: "Oh, I must get around to x." I'm not quite sure what's going on with it. I'm not depressed, there's nothing bad happening in my life, I just can't be arsed with anything much at all. ETA: You know, reading back over this, it sounds rather like low-grade depression. I might have to do something about that."

Erm, yeah, about that. *eyeroll*

I'm going to talk for a bit about the things I did achieve in 2009.
1 - I did "do something about" my depression. I recognised it and took appropriate steps to work through it. I'm not done yet, but I'm giving myself a great big pat on the back for that.
2 - Exercise. I started climbing again. I haven't been for a while, because the people I climb with haven't been, but I have picked it back up. I also began swimming and going to yoga. Go me.
3 - I got the garden sorted out. I am really looking forward to being able to enjoy spending time in the garden this summer.
4 - I have started volunteering at a local community orchard.
5 - I have started writing a bit in fandom, and I'm really enjoying finding that maybe I am a little creative after all. RL people, unless you say otherwise, I'm assuming it's not your thing.
6 - I have taken, quite literally, thousands of pictures this year, some of which are pretty damn good, if I do say so myself.

I have a shiny new year to do decide what to do with.

Already on the agenda is a trip to the Greek Islands with [livejournal.com profile] sassafrassle, and a trip home for my brother's wedding in July. Both are going to be fun!

Things I want to achieve this year.
1 - I am going to join that damn choir. I even talked someone else into going with me, so I just need to make that call and get it happening.
2 - I need to find a better way to blog about travel. This is where I write things to remember them, apart from scribbled notes in a book from time to time which don't make it here.
3 - I will take a class in something. It may or may not be Italian, but I'll do something.
4 - I need to reset my morning and evening routines. This one's going to be a toughy, because it involves breaking old habits. I need to get up sufficiently early in the morning to do stretches before my shower (which needs to be early in itself, because Flatmate gets the shower at 7). And I need to step away from the computer or book early enough to devote 15-30 minutes to some meditation before bed. I am so bad at keeping myself to a self-imposed schedule.
5 - Keep up with the exercise, whether it be climbing or swimming or yoga, or some combination thereof. Or something new.

The soundtrack for this post is This Year by the Mountain Goats. Their own video for it is kinda WTF, so here's a Doctor Who vid of it. Because I can.

Best of luck in the new year. Even if you didn't accomplish all the things you put on your list last year, you still did a lot with it :)

PS. I have fallen seriously in like with that song (it may turn to love)

Yeah, I'm not beating myself for not doing those things. The situation changedm and I went with it.

I love the Mountain Goats. Try this one. The video is rubbish, but it's the only recording I could find that wasn't low-quality live.

Best of luck in the new year love--and I hope the year is much better than 2009! Congrats on recognising what was going on, dealing with the situation change and coming out with new stuff done, even if it wasn't planned!

Morning/Evening routines. Oh yes. *sighs* They can be hard to break, especially when it is self-imposed deadlines!

I really like that song AND the video. Wow.
